PURCHASE THIS EDITIONAs well as a valuable tool that guides us through the de Chirico brothers’ cultural interests during the most important phase of their collaboration, this volume is an indispensable corollary to the attribution of a definitive chronological context relative the Milanese and Florentine periods. The work is based on the systematic study of books borrowed from or consulted by the de Chirico brothers in Milanese and Florentine libraries but also extends to Alberto’s early activity by incorporating the results of other studies by the author. Mocchi adds an important piece to the historical reconstruction of the origins of metaphysical art, not only as a worldview and poetic system, but also as a pictorial, musical and literary production. Paolo Baldacci’s preface briefly retraces the main stages of the Milanese and Florentine periods, highlighting the innovations brought about by Nicol Mocchi’s investigation. The text also puts forward some historical conclusions regarding the relationship between the de Chirico brothers in those years.
